Product Demos

MacroView eXtreme.

These demos have been built to show you the MVX environment and a tiny portion of what this platform is capable of. For the Refinery and Forklift demos a .zip file contains a .exe and a data folder, please unzip these before running the .exe. Movement in the MVX world is controlled with the WASD keys, W for forward, S for backwards, A to strafe left, D to strafe right, use the mouse to look around. To interface with the environment or toolbar, press the right mouse key to bring up a cursor, left click on any control panel to press a button, or left click on any valves or tanks to 'select' them. On the right hand side of the screen there is a toolbar, this toolbar has number of panels:

info First is the Information panel, this shows the information of the item you have selected.

alarms Second is the Alarms panel - currently still in development for these demos.

trends Third is the trends panel - still in development for these demos.

notes Fourth is the Notes panel, press "Add Note" to add a note to the environment, these are stored on the MacroView server the demo is connecting to.

historise Fifth is the Historization panel - still in development for these demos

camera Sixth is the camera panel, this lists a number of camera views possible in the scene

help Last is the help panel, see this for basic information on movement and the scene.

Use the "IC" tab at the edge of the toolbar to open or close it.

Before you begin: These demos require a connection to a MacroView server at Sentient Computing, to do this the following ports need to be open, for the Refinery ports 48720 & 48721 and for the ship port 25001.

Refinery:

The MVX Refinery Demo was designed to show the power of MVX. This demo showcases a crude oil refinery in operation, the refinery model was bought from a third party, and required limited "tweaking" for use in the MVX system, this is a low cost method for quickly developing a site that is still customizable to an individual customer's needs. Note that this demo actively connects to a MacroView server at Sentient, all changes and updates are being made live! Once in the demo we strongly encourage you to explore the environment for yourself, but make sure you find these highlights:

  • Turn the refinery on! After first entering the environment, to your left is a control panel, before continuing, please turn the refinery on. You'll know its on when you can see smoke coming from the stacks.
  • Dynamic Pipe Textures: Notice a Crude Oil pipe through the center of the Refinery, and if you go to the "Refinery Building 1" or 2 Camera View there are a number of other pipes, all have dynamic textures based on their content and flow direction\velocity.
  • Dynamic Geometry: Either walk to the crude oil towers, or go to the "Oil Towers" Camera View to see the oil towers fill and empty dynamically depending on their level on the MacroView server, this view also shows the opening of valves to MacroView data, and pipe content and flow by textures.
  • Take some time to 'fly' around the refinery, note the complexity of the object - all added quickly and seamlessly through a third party source.
  • Drivable Vehicles: Under Camera Views, go to the "Truck" view. This puts you in control of a truck, use WASD to move just as you would normally, but now you can use the numpad keys 4 through to 7 to change the camera view around the truck, as well as 0, 1, 2 & 3 to move the picker on the back!
  • Press "First Person" to return to first person perspective, and feel free to explore the remaining facility and camera views!
  • Leave a note somewhere, either select a valve or tank and add a note to it, or add a note to the scene itself.
  • Make sure you try the demo with sound, note the 3D positional audio!
