SNMP to Modbus – Simplified!
Sentient Computing has recently been challenged to bridge the information gap between SNMP devices and a MacroView control system. Through hard work and determination a solution was found through the use of a device called the Babel Buster – SPX.
The task required us to gather specific information from a UPS and translate this information into MacroView for alarm generation. This was done by using an SNMP manager with the correct MIB library to find out which specific OIDs we wanted to get information from, and hence use these OIDs in the Babel Buster interface. By inputting the OIDs in the SNMP section of the device, data was then successfully obtained from the UPS on the Babel Buster’s behalf.
Once inside the Babel Buster, the SNMP data is stored in registers, which is all easily done through the well set out Babel Buster interface. These registers are stored on the Babel and can be accessed by MacroView using a standard Modbus TCPIP driver. Making the SNMP to MacroView bridge complete.
