Local Deal Connects 3D Technologies to Mining
Wednesday, 04 May 2011 14:08

Balcatta based specialist software business Sentient has signed an agreement with leading engineering services company Calibre Global enabling the two companies to work together on large scale projects.

The MOU provides opportunities to deliver 3D technologies in a real time operating environment to major mining companies.

Calibre Automation and Communications General Manager Matt Coleman says the technology will be beneficial to future projects as it can be tailored to suit each one.

“The ability to produce a real time 3D model linked to the plant control systems provides a key technology differentiator to the industry,” he said.

“The Sentient team have created a great system and together we can see an exciting future for this technology”.

Sentient director Doug Bester said it’s a great chance to be involved in some significant work which will have an impact on the resource industry in the future.

“It’s a positive sign for where things are going in the future for 3D technology,” he said.

“Our expertise in the way of 3D visualisation systems such as MVX will be utilised along with other mining related software systems with a focus on automation, simulation, training, safety and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA).”

Sentient’s MVX technology creates a 3D true-to-life scene of any site or plant and has the ability to incorporate information such as mine site plans, camera feeds, equipment and personnel location. The system, which can be altered to specifically suit the needs of each client, is already being used by a number of companies in the mining, oil and gas industries and Mr Bester said the opportunity to work with Calibre is yet another step forward for Sentient.

The two companies will combine their own strengths and expertise to offer clients a complete package providing services for their project every step of the way.

“Here at Sentient our focus is on technology and by working with Calibre, who have significant experience in performance trials and detailed engineering delivery, we will be able to draw on their technical support when needed,” Mr Bester said.

“We are looking forward to working with Calibre in the coming months. This is a great example of two companies that can collaborate to provide a superior service to clients.”
